Your Questions Answered

What can I expect from a homecare agency?

A homecare agency is there to provide you with professional carers who will assist you in daily living. You are ever at the centre of your care provision, giving you the freedom to direct your in-home care experience.  At The Mayf, our primary role is to supply quality carers who have undergone our extensive recruitment process. Our vetting system identifies our carer's DBS checks, their right to work in the UK, professional references and more. Every carer that you invite into your home has received excellent training, so that you are always met with a carer devoted to your wellbeing.

What do I need to provide for a carer that I invite into my home?

Having a live-in carer in your home, requires them to have a private bedroom for them to rest and store their personal belongings. Unless you or your loved one prefer to eat alone, your carer will usually accompany you at tea time. If you do wish to eat together, your carer’s food will need to be supplied. Otherwise, an allowance will be required to provide the carer with their daily meals.
The Mayf will supply all carers with our PPE and the necessary equipment required to provide your care.

What is the duration of stay for live-in carers?

Our live-in carers are able to stay in your home from 5 days onwards. Depending on your requirements, your live-in carer(s) will stay with you as long as you require care. We always aim to provide maximum continuity with our carers, as we understand that change can be unsettling.

Do you provide visiting/ hourly care?

The Mayf does provide hourly care for those who require assistance for a few hours in the day. This is anywhere from 4 hours to 12 hours per day or night.

What areas do your services cover?

Whilst agency is based in Mayfair, London, we provide care to clients based in and around Central London.  We cover boroughs such as Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea. If you live outside of central London, please book an appointment with us and we may be able to accommodate your care needs.

What is the difference between a live-in carer and a night-carer?

Whether you are provided with a live-in carer or a night carer is contingent on your care requirements. As a live-in carer, they are entitled to their full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep except in cases of an emergency. During the night, they are solely there for added security and peace of mind.

A night carer on the other hand, is there to work with you and for you during the night. If you require assistance in the night i.e. toileting or mobility and transfers, then a night carer would be most suitable.

A night carer may either work alongside a live-in carer, whereby they take over from the live-in carer at night. Or you may only require a night carer and no assistance during the day. Alternatively, we offer 24- hour care, wherein you are provided with a day carer for 12 hours I.e. 8am-8pm, and then a night carer from 8pm to the following 8am, when the day carer arrives.

Will my carer drive?

Many of our carers hold a UK driving licence, and would be able to drive you to your various destinations, provided the relevant car insurance is arranged. However, as an agency, we are always willing to arrange your chauffeur services as requested.
